In January 2013, I began volunteering as design editor for Undercurrent, a zine about Kansas City that features ground-level voices of people living and working in the city. As design editor, I work with the organizing collective to guide the look and identity of the zine, both in print and online. As we were developing the project, I created a simple logo and began creating a look for the zine that would fit within the DIY nature of the project. I also designed a Tumblr website for the project that reflected this aesthetic, along with Facebook banners and print/web fliers for public planning meetings. The 60-page first issue was laid out in Adobe InDesign and printed half-size in black & white, with a cover created by local artist K. Wroten. The first issue was released in June 2013 and available online or locally at Double Rainbow.
